Powerhouse Vocals

Well, I am a little behind on posting something about US, Women. Happy Women's Day! I apologize for the untimely post as you know, I had to get ready for a big party last Saturday. By the way, the party was great in so many reasons - but mainly because of the music. So today, I will share some powerhouse vocals from the best females of today. Not actually related topics, but, well, I need to post about music and then it's our time to shine ladies.

Repost: 9 Little-Known Habits of Confident People

"With confidence, you have won before you have started." -- Marcus Garvey
Confidence is often the single differentiator between people who get what they want and people who don't. Those who think and believe they can do something -- run a marathon, start an entrepreneurial venture, ask someone out (and have them say yes), win a competitive promotion, fit into their pre-pregnancy jeans, build a fun social circle, well... they do it.
Our mind is a very powerful tool, and the impact of our thoughts and words cannot be underestimated. Our thoughts create our emotions. Our emotions create our actions. Our actions create our life. Confident people have greater control over their minds and have tuned their mental station to one of "I can."
Here are nine things that confident people do that you can apply to your life:
1. Do not overcomplicate. You want something? Great! Create a plan to make it yours. Keep your eye on the prize and do not get distracted by other peoples noise or by your own ability to over-think.
2. Focus on what you want. Confident people keep a positive vision in mind of the future. They expect good things to happen to them, and as a result they do, as expectation is a very powerful force.
3. Act as if it's already yours. People who are self-assured allow their language and actions to be in line with their outcome. This inspires confidence in others.
4. Use words with intention. Consider the difference with two people discussing their new blog. One could be, "Yes, I am a blogger. You like vintage purses too? Awesome! We must connect -- check out the new images I posted at..." vs. "Well, I am trying to blog but am not sure I am doing it right (nervous laugh)." Who do you think gets the most views and shares?
5. Listen but don't pay heed to others' opinions. Other people are well meaning and sometimes err on the side of caution. Confident people listen to other people but do not let their difference of perspective take them off track. It's your life!
6. Dedicate time to what matters. Confident people are happy to say no to things to make sure they have time and energy for their priorities. Funnily enough, people treat them with more respect as a result.
7. Act humble. Confident types don't talk endlessly about their successes. I was once at a large corporate event and I was speaking to an outgoing and likeable woman who said she "worked in publishing." I found out later that evening that she was the editor-in-chief of one New York's most influential magazines. Confident people let their success speak for itself and don't need to vocalize it.
8. Know failure is sometimes inevitable and don't fear it. Worrying about failure can keep us from doing anything at all. Confident people are still confident even when they fail. When the chips are down they know it will pass.
9. Repeat all of the above! Confidence building takes a lifetime. The more we practice confidence as an attitude, the easier it becomes.
The most successful and happy people are not born the most rich, beautiful or talented. They just believe in themselves and go for what they want. Confidence is also a highly attractive quality in others as we all secretly aspire to have more self-assurance. "I can" and "I can't" thoughts create very different emotional spirals, as the mind is very obedient and follows whichever path we direct it. Which do you choose?

Throwback: Graduation Time

It’s the month of March, and five years ago, we were counting the days until our Graduation. Imagine how excited I was to finally have the luxury to relax and sleep after those grueling days of February to finalize our Thesis, prepare for our defense and presentation; and to finish on the side our SAD project. Our group had probably injected more than a year supply of caffeine in our body during that month. What can I say, I would like for our Thesis to be one of the bests ever made that year – so I was kind of a strict leader to my close friends and thesis-mates. It did pay off as we got a high score for our Thesis, our baby. What’s the most crucial part, after our defense, we only got 1 week to finish another system for our SAD course. The life in IT – not glamorous but amazingly challenging in so many levels.

Five years ago, I might be excited to finally end being a student; but looking back now, being a student is really easy and amazing. Your goal is to get good grades and pass your courses.  Have a great University life with your friends – go out at night to party, movie dates at the middle of the day, sleepovers, sports and anything under the sun activities that you like doing. And most specially, you have a definite Summer Vacation of more than 1 month to just chill and recharge. Unlike now, I just have 14 days of leave a year (it’s not enough).

I have good memories of my four years in the University that it makes me miss being a student so much. However, it’s time to savor being a professional and enjoy the perks of being an adult. It’s definitely different but equally if not more, exciting and challenging.

Anyhow, here’s the throwback picture for this week.  Thank you Red Images for this formal Graduation picture that made me look more mature than how I look right now.

When In Singapore: The Very Famous Hainanese Chicken Rice

That roasted chicken partnered with Hainanese rice… Oh it’s definitely a must-try when visiting this country. I still remember having this food as the number one food on my must-try food list when I was still a tourist. I guess this meal contributed the most to the five pounds I usually gain whenever I visit this country. Being a chicken lover, I could easily devour a whole chicken partnered with that perfect chili sauce and voila, couple of pounds has been added and I don’t mind at least a bit. And that’s because, I so freaking love the dish. I need to master making the hainanese rice and probably have to know the perfect seasoning for the rotisserie then I have my own version of the Hainanese Chicken Rice Meal – I can probably name it as Chicken Rice a-la “insert my real name here”.

In the meantime, here are the best five Chicken Rice stores that will surely give you the mouth-watering, tummy-satisfying, palate-enticing Chicken Rice meal.
This is based from the site: The Best Singapore

Happy Birthday Daddy - From the Little Girl

I will tell everyone a secret. Even at this age, I am proud to say that I will always be my Daddy’s little girl. To everyone who wants that spot, especially my dear nieces, sorry to say but I am your lolo’s little girl. I still remember those days I bump my forehead to his forehead for good luck during exams. And since I got good grades, he’s proud in saying that the mantra worked.

He’s the first one who has given me flowers on special occasions. My supplier of red wine during the Holidays. The granter of my childish wishes – he never fails to be affected by my puppy dog pleading eyes whenever I want a simple token from him (he just gave me a Christmas present even if I am very much capable of buying a phone, though I gave him a phone too in return).

The man together with the woman (my mom) who never failed to give me my box of chocolates on Valentine’s day when I was still in Manila. The father who never fails to be proud of whatever achievement I made in my life and career – he would be telling it to his colleagues, friends or even the strangers passing by our street. One of the men whose opinions I value. One of the men whose  intellect and success in business I admire . And the first man I love in this lifetime.

And today, the first thing that came to my mind was to greet the first man that I love a Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Daddy.

Say What You Wanna Say - Sara

Words are powerful. But partner it with a good melody, it makes the meaning more heart-felt and heart-warming. I am not going to post an entry regarding the love songs and all the emotional-whirlwind songs – don’t wanna feel you down. Instead, I’ll post about a song that encourages everyone to Speak Up! Saying what you are dying to say out loud to another person or to the world. I know for a fact that it’s hard to speak up. Possibly, my friends would say, I don’t have that problem at all, but yeah, there are things that I could not say out loud, especially if it involves my emotions. Anyway, it’s Monday and get inspired by a song from Sara Bareilles. The song is called Brave. Enjoy!

Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out

Honestly I wanna see you be brave

WFP: A Mega Disaster, A Mega Response

I would never forget how the world responded when Haiyan hit the Philippines. And I am forever grateful for the help extended to our country. I may not be directly affected by the tragedy but still, it is my social obligation as a Filipino to help my brothers and sisters continue living. With the help of World Food Programme which not only focus on giving emergency food, but aims to help the people affected with their livelihood, it is easier for me to reach out.

I have received once again an email from WFP thanking me for my donation. But in all honesty, I am thanking them more in exerting much effort in helping our land recover and move forward. I have donated. I have helped. And I hope you too.

Here's how: https://give.wfp.org/631/?step=country&lead_source=2014-wfp-emergency-enews&form_tag=2014-wfp-enews-feb

When Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines 3 months ago, our role was to quickly assess the damage and launch a response. WFP brought food into the country at a pace few had ever seen before.

By the end of November, we had already reached nearly 3 million people with food assistance.

Now we’re focused on recovery and preparing communities against natural disasters in the future. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our donors. Take a look >>

Your support helped ensure our response was quick, efficient and SUCCESSFUL. Together, we saved countless lives in the Philippines.

Thank you,
Sarah
